Action 8 News covered the story of Hurley winning the lottery. The reporter asked him why did he chose those numbers, and Hurley said "they sort of came to me". During this time, his grandfather, Tito, suffers a heart attack and dies.

After Hurley bought Mr. Cluck's with some of the money he won in the lottery, Tricia Tanaka interviewed him at the place. When Hurley starts saying the numbers are bad luck, she cuts the interview, and goes inside. Not long after this, a meteorite hits Mr. Cluck's, killing her and the cameraman.

After the Oceanic 6 were rescued, Hurley was involved in a car chase. This was covered by the Action 8 News helicopter, as the chase progressed down a freeway. Jack watched this on his television.

Jack rescued two people from a car crash just before he was attempting to commit suicide. When he was at the hospital, the television showed Action 8 News reporting the crash.
